My wife, son, and I spent 12 days in Hawaii, spending four days apiece on three islands; Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii.   This was a special trip for me, because I was able to finally meet my cousin who lives on Oahu.  We have traveled to Hawaii often when my brother-in-law was stationed at Hickam AFB, but that was several lifetimes ago.

OAHU:

Our first stop was Honolulu, and our hotel was only three blocks from the beach area, and we could see Diamond Head from our sitting room.

On our previous visits, we did all the favorites such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, Bishop Museum, North Shore, Haunama Bay, Pearl Harbor, the Aloha Tower, the Dole pineapple factory, and Matsumoto's shaved ice.

This time, we spent hours walking around Honolulu, spent a few hours at the Ala Moana shopping center, Punchbowl (also learned we have a relative here who was in the 442nd Infantry), drove around the island in a rented car, met with my cousin and her nephew who later drove us around and showed us places we've never been, and had dinner with my nephew who works at Queens Hospital.

MAUI:
We have visited Maui several times in the past, because a) we love the ambiance, b) my father was born there, c) we still haven't seen all of the island, and d) it's all part of paradise.  We have done most of the touristy things like snorkeling, kite flight, helicopter ride, drive to Hana, driving up to the Puu Ulaula peak at dawn to see the sunrise, visited Iao Valley, Kahului, Waiehu, Makena, Waiklea, Makawao, Maui Ocean Center, Hihei, and have driven to Honokahua.  Our apartment was located in Kaanapali.

The Big Island, HAWAII:
This is our third visit to the Big Island, but for the first time we stayed in Kona instead of Hilo.  We met with some able2know friends who live here, shared some meals, visited their home, and toured the island.  Visited the hometown and birthplace of Astronaut Onizuka, traveled around the island to visit the Volcanoes, black sand beach, spent a day at the Hilton resort hotel in their pools on our last day, and visited some of their beach parks.
