This is one of those rare occasions that my wife joined me on a journey.  The official tour by Grand Circle Travel started in Toronto, but I took my wife first to Montreal, because I have visited there before and found it to be very "European" in architecture and mood - mostly French in Old Montreal.   They also have a lovely Japanese and Chinese botanical garden that rates amongst the best I've seen.

NOTE: I discontinued making vacation photo albums about two years ago because I find them to be time consuming, but more importantly, nobody looks at them.   That's not the only problem with vacation photo albums; they take up too much space, and most are stored in a storage shack in our back yard.  They used to occupy space on a bookshelf, but they were space hoggers with no practical use.   I started posting my travelogues with pictures on able2know.com, and some have over 1,000 hits.   If you wish to view them, I can supply the links for you.   I have been having difficulty logging onto able2know for about two months, and found travelpod.com.

This journey in Canada was almost perfect except for the two nights we spent from Toronto to Jasper, because the landscape in this part of Canada doesn't offer much in the way of "good sites."   However, our stateroom with a bed was of good size, and we had comfortable easy chairs to enjoy the train ride.  The best part of this journey was from Banff to Vancouver on the Gold Leaf Service on the Rocky Mountaineer.   Not only did we have a panoramic dome car that provided views of the dramatic landscape, bald eagles, and the river that ran alongside the train, the service and meals were excellent.

The Montreal City Hall's design is the "eye."   The message is that the city government "sees all."

TORONTO
:

Before we arrived in Canada, I had contacted Chef Paul and asked him if he would do a special catered dinner for my wife and I.   He consented, and we were treated to an excellent meal matched with wines at his home in Toronto.  I will never forget this special occasion.  Unfortunately, Chef Paul passed away several years after our great banquet, and I miss him and his intellect and wit on able2 know.

The Hudson Bay Company is the oldest commercial corporation in North America.  I remembered studying about HBC in college.

FYI: the city hall photo is not Montreal, it's Toronto's City Hall.

Thank you for your correction. I thought I took that picture from the Sheraton hotel when we were in Montreal. My memory has always been a little rusty, but thanks to people like you, my errors are most often corrected.
