We got a relatively early start in the morning, and made a quick stop at the drugstore in Durango for supplies and then hit the road. Beautiful drive through southern Colorado passing through Wolf's Creek Pass and the continental divide. Almost ran out of gas, and stressed a bit when we drove for miles with "0 miles to empty" along roads that forbid any stopping, and finally found a gas station only to pull over and discover they were out of gas. Long drive on country roads to Great Sand Dunes N.P. where we met an Iowa man and his grandson doing a similar trip. Deflated tires needlessly due to park service recommendations but found a massive 400 foot dune that emptied into a small creek. Scary high, and intimidating. I made a half dozen runs including a couple from ~240 feet, girls only made a couple runs from lower heights. Met a guy from New Jersey Scott and his girlfriend Meghan, and he used our sled to make similar run. Both of us were covered in sand. From there a little back tracking and then beautiful drive north and then west near Pike's Peak before dropping into Colorado Springs. First stop was Garden of the Gods where Karen and her dogs met us. Then off to Karen's house for ratatouille dinner and showers and laundry for all.
