Have you ever looked at all your possessions and wondered how and the hell you came to have so much crap? As I start packing up my apartment, I'm shocked with how much stuff I really have...including some clothes that I swear I haven't worn since the 80's (at least I hope I haven't worn tapered acid washed jeans recently). Anyway...if you're into late 80's and 90's fashion styles...then I suggest you get your ass over to the Dallas Salvation Army store ASAP as I've dropped off at least 5 garbage bags full of swinging clothes there in the past 2 weeks. Besides clothes here are a few examples of stuff I have found recently that haven't been touched for at least a decade:

1) A hard plastic golf club travel case that I used once in '97 to ship my clubs to San Francisco for a vendor golf tournament. Not used since. For that matter I haven't played golf in two years!

2) I dog kennel that I bought in '95 for my then 10 week old dog...Shiner. He couldn't squeeze his butt in there now if I gave him a running start.

3) Two white stackable chairs from Tar-ghetto. Why did I buy two $5 dollar chairs? I have no clue...never used.

4) A really nice workout bench that I got 12 years ago from my parents back when I was too poor to have a gym membership. Most recently it's seen more duty as a clothes rack.

I can't tell you how good it feels to simplify your material possessions down to a 10 foot by 10 foot storage unit. At least that's the goal I'm shooting for. I'm also going to try and apply the same "simplification" principle to how I pack for my time in South America...but those of you that know me well...know how difficult that will be. But we'll save that discussion for a separate entry.
