As I joined the group late in making the decision to go on this trip, the decision was made to put me in the same room as the girls as the boys just had two twin beds and the girls had room for another bed in their room...lucky me
. We dropped our bags off, changed into appropriate beach attire and walked down the beach for a while. Unlike my first trip to Goa...thsi time we're in North Goa near the major tourist area (Bagga Beach). So that means a lot of beach activitiy, more tourists, a beach shack every 20 yards and more topless women than I've seen in a long time. Seriously...I don't get that. I mean if you're in Spain, France, Greece or Australia...somewhere a bit less conservative...then by all means, take the tops off. But if you're in a very conservative and religious country like India...you might wanna try to fit in a bit and maybe then all the local boys wouldn't be staring at you so much. Not that it bothered me one bit. :-) But if you go topless here...expect to be stared at by the locals. Rant ended. We sat down at a beach shack, ordered a few cocktails before heading back to the hotel to change for dinner. Dinner was in Bagga Beach at a restaurant on the beach...the seafood was great. We walked back to hit a couple of the local bars and eventually settled at one called "Coctails and Dreams"...great crowd there and this bar would become our home away from home for the next three nights.
Actually the agenda for the next three nights was fairly straightforward. Wake up, have breakfast, work our way to the beach, find a beach shack, swim/drink/eat for several hours, watch the sunset, get cleaned up, enjoy the hammocks at Lemmon Tree while we waited for the girls to get ready, catch a taxi, have a great dinner, go to Cocktails and Dreams, stuble back home. The hammocks were especially fun for Laju as you can see in the photos. Dinner each night just got better and better...our favorite two places were Britto's and Fiesta. After 3 nights we were finding it hard to get back on the flight to Hyderabad...but somehow we all did. Anyway... a great second trip to Goa...good times with other Hyderabad expats. Enjoy the pics.
So one of my New Years resolutions is to take one trip somewhere each month as this maybe my last full year in India. And despite the fact that I just returned from a month in the U.S...I've decided to take that first trip with a group of friends heading to Goa for a long weekend. So Thursday afternoon, me, Kate (Brit), Laju (Chicagoan), Henry (Kiwi) and Mark (South African) board our Air Deccan turbo prop for the quick one hour flight to Goa International Airport. Upon arrival while the rest of us collect our bags, Henry negotiates a car/driver to take us to our hotel in North Goa near Candolim beach (just south of Bagga Beach). On the driver down we stopped off for cold beer to-go and enjoyed the hour drive through the Goan countryside. The hotel was amazing...a fairly new hotel (Lemmon Tree) with a great pool, direct beach access, nice rooms....and hammocks which we all enjoyed....especially Laju...more on that later.
