My first full week in Hyderabad I was fortunate enough to meet several people...Kat, Sonny, VJ, Nick, Bec and many others.  They have formed the "crew" that I have hung out with over the past 9 months and without them, Hyderabad would be a much, much duller place.  When you meet new people in Hyderabad, one of the first things you ask them is "how long are you here for?".  It sounds like an innocent enough question, but what you're really doing is dividing new faces into one of two categories..."Short Term Friends" or "Long Term Friends".  Short Term Friends are great to have...but they're only in-country for 2-3 months max.  So just when you start to get close to them and enjoy having them around, off they go back to the US, UK, Australia or wherever they're from.  They're typically not on an "expat package" which means that they're living in a hotel, not an apartment...they're living on expenses, not on their own salary...they're traveling every weekend to squeeze as much of India in as possible, while us long termers are in no hurry.  Anyway...the point I'm trying to make is the Long Termers stick together because we have so much in common and I'm glad to have met them all...but when one (or two) of them leave, it's a sad event.

Today is the time for Nick and Bec to leave us...well....sort of.  They're actually not leaving India, just Hyderabad.  Nick's company has expanded operations in North India so they're moving to Ahmadabad to be closer to their team.  They'll both be back in Hyderabad many times in 2008, but as of tonight, they are officially no longer Hyderabad residents.  So Saturday night we all meet at F Bar (where Bec used to work) and enjoy champagne, dancing and saying our goodbyes.  No one really wanted to see the night end, so we all decide to extend the night to Treasure Island.  Now I have never been to T.I....only heard about it.  But it's basically the only "after hours" place in Hyderabad that can stay open past midnight.  To make matters worse...it's a 45 minute drive to get there.  Driving 45 minutes at 12AM isn't something I typically enjoy doing, but a bunch of us decide to do it as it's Nic and Bec's last weekend here so off we go.  T.I. is a little surreal...sort of like a amusement park with a night club, but it was fun and worth the trip to continue the party.  We drink/dance until about 3AM when this old man gets too tired and takes off for home.

The next afternoon, Nick, Bec, Deanne, Kruti and I meet at the Marriott for Sunday brunch which involved eating way to much and drinking several mojito's.  Nick, Bec and Kruti came back to my place around 7 for movie night...during which I immediately fell asleep.

Bye to Nick and Bec...see you guys soon!
