Way back when I was a UNi student my nan introduced me to one half of a lovely couple who are Nick and Els. I was lucky enough to be their tour guide in Melbourne for some bridge rd and chapel street shopping that day and Els during the course mentioned that one day I should come visit their massive almond and walnut ranch. So I did.
After a week in San Fran I hit the frog and toad to meet them and was greeted with a massive hug and kiss like it was yesterday we'd been hangin out in Melbourne. Found out they were taking me to the baseball and then low and behold it was in a corporate box was pretty awesome I must say and to make it funnier they were called the Modesto nuts and had matching mascots. Got to their house and got the guest room which the bed was sooo comfy slept like a log till 9am which is a fair effort for me.
Have brekky sitting at the table for me with juice and coffee. Els then tells me we're going for a drive in her convertible. I'm like hell yes let's do it! So we take off in the v8 to their holiday house by the lake for the day and we stop in at the country club which has a lovely woody 18 hole course and get the intro to the president who shouts us lunch and gets me to say a few words to his colleagues about what I've been up to etc... To which one lady says "I want to take you home I love your accent". Mid afternoon we cruised back to arrive with nick out cooking a BBQ and had the biggest rib eye fillets I've ever seen tasted amazing followed by ice cream.
Day two:
Woke up early to bacon and eggs then went for a cruise with nick in the Chevy truck around the ranch and got an insight to how almonds and walnuts are picked and harvested and saw the factory as well. After that vegged out sun baking by their pool reading my book and had a go on their waterslide helped Els with dinner and sat down to a feast. The was the campaign speeches and was interesting to hear nicks thoughts on them as he had been county mayor amongst other things back in his day which was very interesting to hear about will be interesting to read his biography when it eventually comes out.
Day three got up early packed all my gear up and had brekky then we went into town did the post and went to lunch at this cool restaurant which nick use to frequent when he was county mayor. Had a lovely lunch and then it was time to say goodbye. Wish I could have stayed longer was a lot of fun hangin out on the ranch.
But Vegas was calling haha!
