OUR COMING HOME TRIP:

2:00am  HAD BREAKFAST VIA ROOM SERVICE ON THE CRUISE SHIP
HAD BACON AND EGGS - WAS NOT REALLY
HUNGARY AFTER HAVING A HUGE DINNER.

3:00am TOOK BUS TO AIRPORT

4:00am ARRIVED AT AIRPORT
           GOT BOARDING PASS
           GO THROUGH IMMIGRATION
           GO THROUGH CUSTOMS
           GO THROUGH SECURITY
               -  DELAY AT SECURITY AS THEY WENT THROUGH
MY BAGGAGE SEARCHING FOR A METAL OBJECT
               - AFTER EXTENSIVE AND MUCH SEARCHING
THEY FIND THE METAL OBJECT - IT WAS A JAR
FILLED WITH EURO COINS THAT I WAS BRING
BACK TO CANADA AS SOUVENIERS. THEY DID
NOT THINK OF LOOKING IN THE BOTTLE
FOR THE METAL OBJECT AND I DID NOT
REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR
AND HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE JAR
              OF EURO COINS ANYWAY.

           WAITED PATIENTLY FOR BOARDING

6:00am  PLANE LEFT FOR FRANKFURT, GERMANY BY B747
            - LUFTHANSA AIRLINES - 400 PASSENGERS

8:00am  PLANE ARRIVED IN FRANKFURT, GERMANY
           (FLIGHT LONGER THAN IT APPEARS
            BECAUSE OF TIME DIFFERENCES)
COULD NOT HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THE GERMANS
NO LONGER SCREAM OUT "HEIL HITLER"
            WHEN THEY GIVE ORDERS
  -  BUT THEY
           STILL DO GIVE ORDERS.

10:00am PLANE LEAVES FRANKFURT, GERMANY FOR CHICAGO
BY B747 - LUFTHANSA AIRLINES DIFFERENT PLANE
           IN A DIFFERENT TERMINAL.
HAD TO TAKE A TRAIN TO THE OTHER TERMINAL
           AND GO THROUGH SECURITY AGAIN
            -  BUT NOT  IMMIGRATION OR CUSTOMS
IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR TO GET TO THE BOARDING AREA.

11:55am PLANE ARRIVES IN CHICAGO
WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH CUSTOMS, IMMIGRATION
AND SECURITY TWICE - ONCE TO GET INTO THE U.S.A.
AND ANOTHER TIME TO GET OUT OF THE U.S.A.

NOTE: WE FLEW OVER OTTAWA, TORONTO AND
DETROIT ON OUR WAY TO CHICAGO
          -  IN OTHER WORDS WE FLEW 1,500 MILES
          PAST OTTAWA TO CHICAGO,
THEN WE WAITED 4 AND 1/2 HOURS TO
CATCH OUR PLANE TO OTTAWA - ACTUALLY WE
DID NOT WAIT ALL OF THAT TIME  - IT TOOK
US 2 HOURS TO GO THROUGH SECURITY, ETC.
TO GET INTO THE U.S.A., GET ANOTHER BOARDING
PASS AND GO THROUGH SECURITY, ETC. AGAIN
TO LEAVE THE U.S.A. AND IT WAS A VERY LONG
TRIP GOING FROM THE TERMINAL THAT WE
ARRIVED AT (TERMINAL #1) TO THE TERMINAL
THAT WE WERE DEPARTING FROM (TERMINAL #5).
ONE OF THE CORRIDORS THAT WE WALKED
DOWN IN TERMINAL 5 (ACTUALLY WE STOOD ON
A MOVING CONVEYOR BELT MOST OF THE TIME
          -  IT IS CALLED MASS PRODUCTION  -  SEEMED
TO ME TO BE ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 15 BLOCKS LONG.
CHICAGO'S AIRPORT (O'HARA, IS THE BUSIEST
          AIRPORT IN THE WORLD
THEN WE FLEW THAT 1,500 MILES FROM CHICAGO
BACK TO OTTAWA 4 AND 1/2 HOURS LATER -  THAT
IS HOW THE MODERN AIRWAYS OPERATE  -  IT IS CALLED
THE HUB SYSTEM  -  YOU FLY FROM
HUB TO HUB FIRST -  BEFORE FLYING TO
           YOUR ACTUAL DESTINATION.
IF I WAS RUNNING THINGS, THEY WOULD
BE A LOT SIMPLER. UNFORTUNATELY I AM
          NOT RUNNING THINGS

4:30pm PLANE LEAVES CHICAGO - UNITED AIRLINES -
           70 PASSENGER CRJ70 - NICE SIZE,
I AM STARTING TO GET TIRED OF BIG

7:30pm PLANE ARRIVED IN GOOD OLD OTTAWA
           -  WHICH IS 3:30am ISTANBUL TIME
HAVE NOT BEEN OUTSIDE SINCE 6:00pm
OF THE PREVIOUS DAY  -  TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION
THE TIME CHANGES, WE HAVE NOT BEEN OUTSIDE
(WE BEEN INSIDE) FOR MORE THAN THE LAST 36 HOURS.
AND ARE CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT THE WEATHER
           WILL BE LIKE.

WE WERE CHAUFFEURED FROM THE AIRPORT
TO OUR PLACE BY LISE'S FRIEND SYLVIE

9:00pm   ARRIVED AT HOME

AND THIS IS A HOLIDAY/VACATION/ADVENTURE.
IT IS HARDER THAN GOING TO WORK; BELIEVE YOU ME
BUT IT IS MORE INTERESTING AND FUN THEN ACTUALLY GOING TO WORK. ALTHOUGH SITTING AT MY DESK AT WORK SOME DAYS WAS NOT ALL THAT HARD.

VERY TIRED
CANADIAN DAVE, AND
THE VERY LOVELY LISE
VIVA LA CANADA

P.S.
THERE MAY BE SEVERAL MORE TRAVELBLOGS POSTED,
EVEN THOUGH WE ARE BACK IN OTTAWA NOW.
PLAN ON MAKING A FEW OBSERVATIONS ON THE TRIP
IN TOTAL AND IN GENERAL.

BE GOOD TO YOURSELF
