LAKE CHAPALA

WENT TO AN INFORMATION  MEETING OF THE CANADIAN SNOWBIRDS  ASSOCIATION  - THERE WAS ABOUT 300 TO 400 PEOPLE THERE - OVER 1/2 WERE OVER 60 YEARS OF AGE. WHEN ASKED HOW MANY HAD DRIVEN THERE OVER 1/2 PUT UP THERE HANDS. IT WAS AN INFORMATION SESSION ON LIVING IN MEXICO AND CHAPALA.

IN CHAPALA, THERE IS ALSO:
 - A CANADIAN CLUB.
 - AN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION.
 - AN AMERICAN LEGION.
 - AN ENGLISH NEWSPAPER - WEEKLY
 - AN ENGLISH BOOK STORE  THAT SELLS ENGLISH NEWSPAPERS FROM MIAMI, USA TODAY, ETC.

LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY IS AN ASSOCIATION AND COMMUNITY CENTRE OF ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE - IT HAS A MEMBERSHIP OF OVER 3,800 - AND MANY OF THOSE MEMBERSHIPS ARE FOR COUPLES - DO NOT THINK THAT THERE ARE MANY FAMILIES - AND THERE ARE MANY ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN THE AREA THAT HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO JOIN THE LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY, WHICH COSTS $40. I JOINED SO THAT I COULD GET A MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN TO JUST HANGOUT AT THE LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY COMMUNITY CENTRE. THE MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY IS BIGGER THAN THE ARMPRIOR PHONE DIRECTORY - THERE IS ALSO QUITE A BIT OF ADVERTISING IN IT, INFORMATION THAT MAY BE USEFUL TO ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN THE AREA, A HISTORY OF THE LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY, IT HAS BEEN HERE FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS, ETC.

HOUSING PRICES HAVE GONE OFF LIKE A ROCKET IN THE LAST 3 OR 4 YEARS - A $50,000 HOUSE 4 YEARS AGO NOW GOES FOR $200,000 TO 250,000 = WHICH IS SORT OF STARTING TO APPROACH OTTAWA HOUSE PRICES - EVERYONE HERE THINKS THAT IT IS REALLY CRAZY - SOME ARE NOW SELLING OUT AND MOVING TO MANIZILLO, ON THE PACIFIC COAST.
MOST PEOPLE ARE LIVING HERE TAX FREE.

MOST OF THE ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE HANGOUT AND EAT IN THE SAME RESTAURANTS.  IT IS ALL QUITE AN ENGLISH SPEAKING SOCIAL·  CIRCLE. - SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT A 1/4 to 1/2 OF THE PEOPLE IN CHAPALA ARE ENGLISH SPEAKING.

THE WOODEN TELEPHONE POLES HERE HAVE METAL SPIKE STEPS ON THEM - REMINDS ME OF MY YOUTH WHEN I LIKED TO CLIMB TO THE TOPS OF THE TELEPHONE POLES - I AM TEMPTED TO GIVE IT A TRY - DO THEY STILL HAVE METAL, SPIKE STEPS ON WOODEN TELEPHONE POLES IN CANADA?????? - I DO NOT KNOW...

IT IS FAIRLY COMMON TO SEE PEOPLE RIDING THROUGH CHAPALA ON HORSEBACK AND TO SEE HORSES HITCHED UP IN FRONT OF SOME ONE´S HOUSE HERE - PEOPLE HORSEBACK RIDE HERE AS A HOBBY BUT SOME ACTUALLY USE IT AS A MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.

EVERYONE (RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL) HERE IS LEGALLY REQUIRED TO WASH THE SIDEWALK AND STREET IN FRONT OF THEIR PLACE - PEOPLE HERE TAKE THAT RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY.

THERE DOES SEEM TO BE A LOT OF HOT PASSIONATE MAKING OUT GOING ON EVERYWHERE HERE - I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT YET IF THAT IS BECAUSE THE MEXICAN WOMEN ARE SO HOT (AND THEY ARE), OR BECAUSE THE MEXICAN MEN ARE SO HOT (I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT MYSELF), OR IT IS THE EFFECT OF THE HOT WEATHER (WHICH IT IS), OR A COMBINATION OF ALL THREE.

THE STREETS IN AJIJIC ARE VERY NARROW -  ONE ROW OF PARKED CARS LEAVE BARELY ENOUGH ROOM FOR ANOTHER CAR TO GO DOWN THE STREET.  YOU HAVE TO PARK WITHIN A 1/2  INCH OF THE CURB TO LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR OTHER CARS TO GO DOWN THE STREET. AFTER PARKING 6 TO 12 INCHES FROM THE CURB FOR YEARS IN OTTAWA, IT IS QUITE A CHALLENGE TO PARK WITH IN A 1/2 INCH OF THE CURB.

THERE ARE 2 MEXICO´S IN MEXICO - THE MODERN MEXICO, WHICH INCLUDES MODERN MEXICANS  -  AND, THE OTHER MEXICO, WHICH IS, IN EFFECT, A 3rd WORLD COUNTRY  -  A LOT OF MEXICO SOUTH OF MEXICO CITY IS THE OTHER MEXICO - THE NOT MODERN MEXICO (THE 3rd WORLD MEXICO). BUT IN THE NORTHERN PART OF MEXICO, THE TWO MEXICO´S LIVE SIDE BY SIDE.

THERE ARE GATED COMMUNITIES HERE IN CHAPALA  -  TO KEEP OUT THE MEXICAN RIFF RAFF I ASSUME  -  I HAVE NOT TRIED IT BUT I WAS THINKING OF TRYING TO DRIVE INTO ONE OF THE GATED COMMUNITIES JUST TO SEE IF I COULD/CAN  -  I WAS SORT OF WONDERING IF THEY WOULD LET ME PASS, GO IN, JUST BECAUSE I HAD CANADA LICENSE PLATES ON THE CAR AND LOOKED LIKE A CLEAN CUT GRINGO, AMERICANO.

THERE ARE A LOT OF VERY LARGE TREES HERE THAT ARE COMPLETELY COVERED BY BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT, PURPLE FLOWERS  - SOMETIMES THERE ARE 15 or 20 OF THESE TREES IN A ROW BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD  -  IT IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL SIGHT.

THAT IS ALL FOR NOW
