San Miguel at Xmas Time
Lots of Xmas lites in San Miguel at Xmas time and pinata's....
The Central Plaza (The Jardin) has Xmas lites
wrapped around the trunks of all of the trees in The Jardin
And there must be at least 50 trees in The Jardin..
And on the buildings around The Jardin there are strings of blinking white lites
that look like and give the impression that they are water falls - it is the way
that the white lites are blinking that give the impression
that it is water flowing down the sides of the buildings....
If I had a camera - I would be taking pictures of it.
The lites wrapped around the tree trunks are a bright red..
It is a nice contrast with the illustion of the white flowing water on the buildings around The Jardin....
But a camera picture only captures the colours and not the brightness of the colours so camera pictures can never really capture the picture and hve the same impact as actually being there and seeing it with the background of the pitch black sky.......
I am going to a Xmas party on Xmas Eve (Dec.24/Mon)
and a Xmas party on Xmas Day (Dec.25/Tue....)
The English speaking community in San Miguel is big on having parties..
I think it is sort of an American thing.....
All of the parties are at American's places - even though Canadians
are close to being 1/2 of the English speaking people here...
The Xmas party on Xmas Eve is suppose to start at The Jardin at 6:00pm with us singing Xmas caroles. It is pitch dark out at 6:00pm. Before it moves over to the person's house...
The English speaking people here (or at least the ones that have parties) tend to have huge houses with 20 ft. high ceilings and large open court yards enclosed by high walls..Ideal,and very well suited to having large parties.... The 6 or 7 Xmas parties that I have been to so far this year have all fit that pattern...
I hate singing Xmas caroles and am thinking about skipping the singing of Xmas caroles
and just going straight to the person's house..
But on the other hand, even though I hate singing Xmas caroles,
it might be fun and an experience to be in the Central Plaza (The Jardin) of San Miguel .
on Xmas Eve to be in on the action and a part of the action and to see and experience
a Mexican Xmas Eve in San Miguel....I assume that there will be bands there
playing away like crazy..... with the Xmas lites and everything - it might be pretty awe inspiring.
A little bit like being in Times Square on New Year's Eve - but on a much, much, much smaller scale of course.....
But maybe not - the largest church (Roman Catholic of course) in San Miguel is on one side of The Jardin and maybe the observation of Xmas Eve will be more religious in nature than a wild Fiesta ..There is certainly a lot ot pictures and statues, etc. of the Virgin Mary and the Nativity Scene and the baby Jesus around and everywhere.. and very few Santa Claus's......In fact, I cannot remember seeing one Santa Claus here yet.....
And I could always fake singing the Xmas caroles with very expressive facial expressions
like I am really, really belting out those Xmas caroles..
I was one place where Mexican school children were singing Xmas songs in Spanish...
I cannot understand Spanish - but there was some song sheets around
and I can read a little bit of Spanish. They were singing songs like "Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells"
and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus".. They were singing about snow sleds being pulled through the snow by reindeer - they probably do not even know what a snow sled is, and have never seen snow and have no idea what a reindeer is... Makes you wonder about things, or at least it makes me wonder about things - same thing probably goes for Australia, where Xmas is in the middle of the summer - which I hear can be a real scorcher in Australia.. Those Santa Claus Outfits must be pretty hot in Australia during during their Xmas Holidays, summer heat waves...
Since the streets in many parts of San Miguel are very narrow - especially in the older part of the city around the Central Plaza (The Jardin) - people string Xmas lites from their houses on their side of the street to the houses on the other side of the street..
Think that I might be going to a Bull Fight on New Year's Eve....
I can't do that in Ottawa.....
Feliz Navidad Todo Ustedes
