on August 11/Saturday at the Upper Brewers Locks.....
A nice warm sunny day....
I am really glad that we did not start our epic canoe trip on Friday morning in the rain....
What a way that would have been to start an epic canoe trip....
Those people that were praying for rain really screwed up the first day of our epic canoe trip..
GOD DAM those people that prayed for rain and GOD DAM GOD for answering their prayers....
I have noticed that all of the hair on my arms have turned snow white..
Is that from being out on the water all day in the sun,
or have I aged 10 years in the last day - the first day of our epic canoe trip.....
Saturday nite we got a talk on the Jones Locks from Ken Watson, who has written a number of book on the Rideau Canal including his book on Canoeing the Rideau Canal.
Note: Saturday, August 11 was John By's Birthday......
To see Ken Watson's Website on the Rideau Canal go to the following link
This is Sunday, August 12 and we are at Newboro, One third of the way to Ottawa.
Newboro is referred to as the summit. It is where the water runs down to Kingston.
So we have been canoeing up stream so far. Past Newboro the water runs down to Ottawa,
So we we will be canoeing downstream all of the way now to Ottawa for the last 2/3's of the epic canoe trip - a piece of cake...
When I told someone that I was going on a canoe trip on the Rideau Canal from Kingston to Ottawa - their comment was that at least I did not have to worry about getting lost. Their perception of the Rideau Canal is based on what they see in Ottawa - an actual canal from Mooney's Bay to the Ottawa River
- it is over 95% lakes and rivers,,,,...
