Soap suds floating around. Soap scum at the edges of the rocks! I've brought my brother here, and Andrew's brother too. Everybody oohed and ahhhed, it's like a moonscape, or something from a comic book on space.
But not today. We've moved into a Quiz of States by now, all done with capitals and into nicknames, he's quizzing me, but I don't know. Alabama is Heart of Dixie, that one I aced. But Arizona I forgot, Grand Canyon State he gleefully shouts out. Of course! The spiraled map book in his lap, he flips the pages, tries to stump me, once again. Connecticut, he hollers, Red Hen State is my reply
So, there's a pulloff just ahead, say Andrew, here we are. Alas, no bubbles out today, the water lays there, brown and still and hot, some nasty algae-looking stuff is floating near the shore. The rings are there, however, the shoreline ringed with white, I know it's minerals of some kind that makes the stain, a chemist I am not. Oh well, let's make the best of it.
There's ducks, they're funny things, watch them take off, fly just above the water's top, they're fishing, don't you guess? Their feet come down and start the water drag, slow down, they sit and glide again.
Up there above, look how those rocks are folded up, they twist and turn, must have been a massive nature push to move the rocks like that.
Blue dragonflies are buzzing, darting past our head, landing on the water top. Such brilliant blue! And wings so sheer, see-through with such a perfect arch, Wilbur and Orville couldn't make a wing so fine, a vehicle to soar and hover both, fast and slow, and landing on the water top, or perching on a rock
Oh no! Andrew wants them out, they can't be happy there. We roll the windows down, open up the doors. Stay here! is our advice, stay here with your wife and children! Stay here with your lake!
But one remains, and we decide he's eager to move on, to see new sights.
We let him ride with us until we stop to eat. McDonalds parking lot, he exits, heads off to a camper top. We go inside to eat.
