Go with me? "She laughs as she runs" is the Cherokee meaning for the word Euharlee. And Euharlee Creek runs through the little Georgia town of the same name that is our destination. Euharlee has a famous covered bridge, and it's also where we'll find a three-day party lasting the entire holiday weekend.

The non-profit Covered Bridge Festival celebrates community in action, with plenty of activities for kids and grownups still in summer mode. It all begins Friday afternoon, though Saturday promises everything from an Antique Car Show to a contest for the Ugliest Feet!

Music is non-stop throughout the event - rising country stars on a six-state "Heart of Country" tour are stopping by; so are Christian bands, cloggers, and a variety of soloists. Buy a fall wreath and some handmade pottery as you browse the crafts booths; watch the artillery displays and skirmishes at the Civil War encampment.

Dangle your feet over the side of the bridge, high above the laughing creek. Check out the numbered marks on the bridge timbers. It was assembled on land and then taken apart and reassembled over the creek! It's been there since 1886 but is in prime condition today, thanks to careful tending by this public-spirited community.

This restored pre-Civil War town is meant for strolling; stop at the Cowshed History Museum, the blacksmith shop, or the commissary, where renters could "owe their soul" to their landlord until the crops came in. The calaboose was built for the occasional chicken thief. Wind up your visit with a cool drink on the front porch of the General Store - it's been in business for over a hundred years. See you there.

Hello from Euharlee, GA :-)
Just a little note that I loved the mention of our special little town on your travel blog! I moved here a year ago, and absolutely love living here! It's just far enough away from Atlanta (40 miles) but still convenient to everything the area has to offer. I hope your enjoyed your visit and plan to visit again!
