The Dutch Maid Bakery on Main Street is Tennessee's oldest family-run bakery; it was established in 1902 by Swiss immigrants; most of the baking is done in a 1930's converted stoker oven and they are still turning out Old World recipe breads and their famous applesauce fruitcakes.
Informal tours are given on request, ask for a mail-order brochure so you can order such items as sugar plum cake or a sampler box of breads all year round.
Mountain Lakes Glassworks has lodging and classes available by appointment in a lakeside setting; hand-blown glassware, pottery and bronze casting.
