The McMinn County Living Heritage Museum is worthy of a long visit -- there are 26 permanent exhibit areas. They cover the Cherokee heritage, Tennessee's pioneer years and secession from the Union, and the Civil War and its economic transformation. One of the south's largest quilt shows is held here every year.
Get the scoop at Mayfield Dairy. At the Visitor's Center you are treated to a film and then a tour of the dairy; there are some steps to climb and you need slip-resistant shoes. Stop in the ice-cream parlor for treats when you're done.
Tennessee Wesleyan College has a beautiful campus gracing the downtown area; it's a four-year institution supported by the United Methodist Church.
Woodlawn Bed & Breakfast serves gourmet breakfasts and is in a National Historic Register home built in 1858. The original smokehouse still stands.
