When I announced that I was moving to Seattle, way back in 1980, everyone in the south visualized me in parka and snowboots, barely surviving the winter in dim igloo light. It's so far NORTH. One of my southern grandsons was afraid to visit Seattle because he feared a Big Foot attack. Truth is, I had a few myths in mind myself.
Only those who have actually visited here are convinced that this is a semi-civilized place. The rest, I play around with! On my APRIL birthday in 1981, my sons and I left the beautiful greenery of our Seattle-spring yard, laden with rhododendron blooms, and drove to Snoqualmie Pass, 45 minutes and a good-sized elevation gain away
"April" I lamented, when I mailed the picture south, "and the snow is still so DEEP."
Are all the rumors I hear of life in Antarctica just somebody's leg-pulling too? Or, will the White Continent knock me on my ass with its whistling winds and icy waters? Hey, I can take it. I've got my long johns and my waterproof pants.
See what I've been up to these last few weeks.
