In all the world there may be no place friendlier than Whitefish, Montana. I'll be right there to bring your car, Charlie said. You stay inside where it's warm.

So here he was, smiling friendly now, stuck out his hand to shake. I'm Charlie, welcome to Montana now. A grin. And now a hand to shake with Andrew, who had his hand deep in a Cheetos bag. Andrew reached out, then hesitated, wiped his hand against his jeans. Apologized, I've got gunk all over, he said.

Charlie reached down and grabbed Andrew's hand and shook it, warmly, genuine. Well that's all right, he said. Welcome to Montana now.

Well I'm impressed. So kids are equals here! Charlie talked as we drove back to the office to sign the papers for the car. To both of us, by name. Wherever can you find that, I say to myself. We check the red Toyota out and get our maps.

On Sunday now, when you get on the train, just leave the car in the parking lot and lock the key inside. I'll get it Monday morning.

A trusting place. I like it here. And Andrew beams.
