Matt, it''s important to know your ancestry. Think how many people come together in you! I am big on Family Trees, have researched about 8,000 of our relatives now, found their graves, know some of their stories.

You've seen your great-grandfather who is alive and well; now I'll show you where your other three great-grandparents (on your father's side) are buried. My Mom (who was called "Grandmother") died when you were 11, so you two got to spend some time together. She thought you were the cutest thing! She was a very pretty lady, don't you think? Ivous was her name.

Her cemetery is on one side of the New Prospect Baptist Church, which is the first church I went to, when I was a baby. My grandparents are buried on the other side of the church. They are your great-great-grandparents. Got that? I called them Mother and Daddy Burton, They are Granddaddy's parents.
Grandmother's parents are buried in Guin, not here.

Papa Don's parents and his four grandparents are buried at Oak Hill, the city cemetery. Raymond was your great-grandfather, like Craig Sr is, he was called Papa. You were 7 when he died. He was quite a storyteller, and a good writer too, he wrote a column for the Daily Mountain Eagle. Blanche was your great-grandmother, like Ivous was, she was called Mama. She died in March before you were born in October. She loved to crochet and made you a blanket for your crib.[

Your great-great-grandfather Berry was killed in a train accident when he was 42. Your great-great-grandmother Callie (Granny) lived to be 104! Your Waid great-great-grandparents also lived a long time. So, except for accidents, your ancestors seem to enjoy living!

I miss them all, you should be proud to be part of their family.

The Old Jasper Cemetery has the graves of many of your ancestors that go way, way back.
