I left Jasper after your Papa Don and I got married in 1957. But, there is a lot of history in Jasper. A lot of history. My Dad (Granddaddy) built the house on 5th Avenue that I was living in when I got married. Yes he did! The Baptist Church has bought it now and uses it for meetings. I understand the Jewish Temple next door has been bought out too. Times change.
The saddest thing is my grandparents house on Prospect Road, where I spent so much time as a little kid. It was such a pretty place, surrounded by big oak trees, with a giant holly in the front yard. Out back, pecan trees, peach, pear; grape arbors, beehives, and fields and fields of corn, all planted by Daddy Burton. Now it is surrounded by ugly commercial buildings and somebody has painted the house an outlandish purple-blue. I used to sit with my grandmother in the front porch swing.
