Show trip route
How does it work? Every year, 12 best samba schools from all over Brazil (6 each on Sunday and Monday night) choose their own theme and prepare a show of approximately 1 hour, during which Unidos da Tijuca and Vila Isabel.
Tijuca were the defending champions, and definitely came back with a show to compete for a repeat! Their theme was cinematography, and although it included lots of Brazilian movie references which didn't mean much to us, some of the absolute classics were present too: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Avatar, Predator, The Last Samurai, Ghostbusters, Robin
Vila Isabel chose hair as their theme, which turned out a bit too much of a challenge. The performance was still interesting, but presenting hairstyles of all ages and continents couldn't quite match the energy level of their precedents. Even including a naked lady on a horse (don't ask me why) and Gisele BŁndchen didn't rescue it, and the rain wasn't helping either. So although the official results aren't out yet (to my knowledge), we all agree Tijuca were better!
We were too tired and too wet to stay and watch the last parade, but instead enjoyed a beautiful sunrise on the way back to the hotel, and fell asleep with our heads full of colourful memories!
