Left Lake Argyle with the intention of either staying at Timber Creek or Victoria River roadhouses but none of these places were appealing so we moved onto Katherine. We needed to be at Katherine by Monday to have our car fixed anyway so we were there a day early.  30 mins from Lake Argyle and we had crossed the Northern territory border and gained an hour and .

On Sunday 1st July it was Territory Day, a day of fireworks.  All stores in town are legally able to sell fireworks as long as they are lit between 6pm and 11pm on this day.  So we thought we needed to buy some – 100 bullets, shooters, planes and a ferris wheel.  A fireworks display was held at the showgrounds at 7pm so we thought we would let ours go before then. May have started a small fire with the shooters!!! It was declared a total fire ban until 6pm so the fireworks could be lit.  Very strange!!!  Driving through town you'd think you were in a war zone, under fire.

Unfortunately by Monday when our car was due to be looked at, all workers were fighting the fires that were lit by the crackers!!!  It wasn’t till 4 days later that the electronics were fixed and by this stage we couldn’t even open the passenger front door.

We only managed a few attractions which were the hot springs, the low level bridge and water ways and Edith Falls (we only went to the water hole as the escarpment had been partially washed away during the wet season.

Since we will be heading back to Katherine before we head east we will then visit the Gorge.

Our caravan park had a restaurant and live entertainment each night.

School holidays have started in the NT and Katherine was very busy.  The kids have 4 weeks off during the dry season. Which is a good idea maybe Vic kids should have 1 less week in winter and an extra week at Sept??

Saw a snake when walking to Springvale Homestead, did a little hop, skip and a jump but thought it looked dead so I was safe.  I took Adam to  see the dead snake but it was no longer there.  Must have been alive!!!
