I still can't get used to these suburban churches... where do they put the graveyard?

Another street corner for colour.

And yet more colour. I must admit that the whole of Berlin's no doubt not so cool. Somehow I fluked a really good suburb - well hardly fluked, I did have some advice. Being in this area has really made my trip though.

I went on a long pilgrimage in search of a German restaurant. I got further and further away from what I thought was the main drag but there seemed to be more and more restaurants.

These are the seats I didn't sit in. But I did eat in this restaurant.

I opted for a schnitzel with fresh cauliflower. I should have known they'd over cook the cauliflower... and the browned butter over the top didn't help it go down either.

On the way home I went near a park and came across these two blokes.

They were superb. I don't even think they were busking. It sounded like they were just working out a few songs for later.

The park itself was quite a surprise.

Quite a lot of people and just about everyone had a beer.

The sheer expansiveness was surprising. A bit of litter around but that's part of Berlin grudge.

Down here I spotted a take-away shop. I was so taken aback by the price that the shop-keeper thought I couldn't understand German. €0.90 for a half litre bottle.

Here and in Ukraine there is the phenomenon of people swooping on any finished bottle. Apparently each bottle is worth €0.08. In reality it's not really enough to make everyone return their bottles - but it does mean that the bottles get cleared up by the professionals.

This bloke didn't waste time on the empties, he just asked for money. A lot of well-heeled foreigners here so if you ask in English you're right.

Some of those buildings - the church and the bldg below - look pre-war. Are there many left or is this because you're well outside the centre? I read that there is a very costly project to rebuild a big renaissance palace that was in the centre, is that happening or has it been shelved?

No this is really close to the centre. It's possible that a huge amount was simply rebuilt. I'll ask next time I get a chance.

I can't imagine they could now rebuild anything without knocking something down and that I can't imagine either.

Yeah, I meant to update my reply. By coincidence I passed it yesterday. They've still got the original plans.
