Read my review - 4/5 stars
- Action action action, all the time
- Massive museums
- Entertainment everywhere
- Shops to cater to everyone
- Weather that be mid-20's one day and minus 2 the next....sounds like home :-)
Go back and read the entry for March 6 for the first few days but we saw most of the main sights like World Trade Centrer site, Statue of Liberty, China Town and Little Italy plus of course 5th Avenue, Times Square (Triangle?), Flat Iron, Rockefeller and Empire State Buildings etc
We also went to the Tennis at Madison Sq Gardens, a show on Broadway and Natural istory Museum
Since then the pace has not really slowed until today when have slowed a little
Over last few days we went to the movies
We also managed a trip to the Met(ropolitan) Museum of Art - wow, like the Louvre for quality and size and today managed a trip to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
At the Met there was so much to see it was great - you may have noticed that I have changed the blog photo
Before I forget, we saw a cute sight en route to the Met. We were walking along 7th Avenue and saw 2 school teachers with their class. The youngsters were 'carrying' a rope so that they were all together. And on the way back we saw some up market buskers - short clip here somwhere, and a stack of squirrels
A real highlight yesterday was a trip to SOHO - So(uth) o(f) Ho(uston). We headed there because it was a warm day (reached 21) and I wanted to visit B&O. Well we found all sorts of specialised shops but the highlight was a women's clothign shop that made everything on the premises. So when Sandy found a coat she liked but the sleeves were too long...no problem and 3 minutes later it was back altered. There is a photo of the factory downstairs. I should have added that they have sensational husband service too - fast wifi, very comfy chairs and unlimited champagne. Most expensive champagne I have ever drunk but hey, the coat looks great
The walk to and from Soho was around 18kms with lots of stops and increasingly heavy bags of shopping...maybe thats why we are a little slower today
Todays trip to the MoMa was a great contrast to the Met. Much more modern art....not a surprise given the name!
Most of what we have seen feels like Melbourne on steroids (or asteroids as one of my friends says). It has a great feel. Probaly the thing I was not as ready for was the arcitecture. Many attractive and interesting buildings
Forty-eight hours to go...woo hoo
A few minor hassles from Europe...one of the places we have booked has just been sold. The agent rang to warn us that they will find us another place if the new owner does not want to honour the agreement. Two days later, all is sorted, the new owner is fine.
Today's payment for Bordeaux which the owner insists is done thru PayPal has been rejected at our end. Will need a phone call or two to resolve. This hotel has an interesting deal $15 per day for v fast wifi that also includes unlimited phone calls
Must get ready for Friday night dinner....yeah I know I called this Saturday update, its Saturday in Oz!!
