Yes, today is indeed Wednesday because we had movie night last night. This time we saw a movie from the 1930s. It was in black and white and I think it was called "The Soul of a Student" or something like that. It was kind of funny. I could tell the actors were speaking old-school Czech, like the kind my grandma speaks. I wanted her to watch the movie, I kept thinking she would enjoy it (perhaps more than I did). But I liked it anyway.

Tonight we have some dancing thing. I think it's like traditional dances, and there's a competition I think. I'll probably win at polka, I'm so sweet at dancing. Haha, just kidding. I don't know, we'll see. Ummm, yea.

It's a good thing I can write while these pictures upload because it takes awhile. Well things are going good in class, I was not as lost today as I was yesterday and the day before. I have been enjoying lots of local food. I go to the buffet a lot because they also have a deli where you can get these little delicious open-faced sandwiches. They're so good but they're kind of like snack size for me. Today on break I went and got a hot dog, then headed down to my little snack shop and got a tuna sandwich w/ cucumbers, then a piece of pizza. The pizza was really good. For the price, it beat the pants off the Italian ones. :) I say that because the ones in Italy were mostly just sauce and cheese for like 3 or 4 Euros. This had cheese, ham, green peppers, mushrooms, maybe even tomatoes and onions. For about 75 cents. But there wasn't any sauce that I could taste so it wasn't exceptionally pizza-ish.

I have partially adopted the diet of a Spanish man. (my roommate) It features yogurt, fresh almonds, little white asparagus in glass jars, and these mini corn things in almost vinegar stuff, also in a glass jar. I don't know how sustainable it will be because I really like sandwiches and chips.

The sad thing about the photos is that I have a lot of better photos but I want to do them in order, but I put these up with the entry from Sunday because I think people might not remember back to my stories from last month. (Haha, it's me who can't remember that far back!) Just kidding. Anyway, I bought some blue pants today, they're comfortable and I like them. I spent quite a while looking at their clothes. Some were really unsightly, but I had to sort of pinch myself to realize it. I might go back and buy some white pants, they're so fashionable over here I think. I tried some on today.

Well the heat has subsided some here the past two days which is really nice. I think some of the initial fun of joshing with Simon has worn off. I took a nap today. I'm going to Prague this weekend. I am going to Terezin on Saturday and the botanical gardens on Sunday. Ross sent me a message inviting me to a party in Ostrava next weekend. It's about an hour from here but I hope I can go. I wrote to Veronika and am waiting to hear back from her. I should start to plan the trip to Trnava, Slovakia to visit the family of my aunt's former exchange student. It's just complicated to make phone calls.

At the lecture yesterday the professor was talking quite a bit about Sokols. He said they were almost like an army because they had so many disciplined people who knew how to march, were fit and organized. All they needed were weapons apparently. During the coup in the 1880s, Sokols "troops" were the ones to force the Hapsburgs out and guard the castle I think. Olomouc was the second city to get a Sokols chapter. There was no lecture today.

mom and dad are first to post a comment!
Hello Son, White pants? Why not, it will make your hair stand out more, I guess. Mom thinks the asparagus and corn sound fabulous! Is the corn that baby corn used in Chinese food? WE like corn on the COB,like that's where we Nebraskans get Cornhuskers! (actually we reverted from the Bug eaters and then stole cornhuskers from the Iowa hawkeyes.) Or are they the tall corn state? 29 days til Husker football.
Mom wants to write now and get to the kitchen as this talk of food is making her hunger juices start to flow.
Cool to hear your professor's view of Sokol. Have fun at the dance thing tonight. (Mom taught me to polka on our wedding night. Dad) Spanem Bohem! Na shle! love you! Mom

Czech fashion?
I guess it's like they say- when in Olomouc..... I'm sure you'll be dashing in white pants. Especially on that all vegetables in vinegar diet. Tell us more about the buffet. (haha) I hope you remember all the dances so you can teach them to us when you get back. And remember all the Sokol stuff and history stuff too 'cause we want to know that as well. Has it cooled down some since we haven't heard you mention it or are you just acclimated? Plus you mentioned downloading pictures but what day's entry are they in? The others were awfully fun to look at. Natalie says she wants to go to Prague for her honeymoon. Now she just needs about 13 years and a worthy man (boy). Take care and say your prayers. By the way. You didn't mention going to Mass yet. I'm sure you've gone, right?!! How does it compare to Mass here in the States?
P.S. Please don't adopt the Czech swim fashions!

Blue pants
Hey Ben! I want to see the blue pants - are they a fun blue or navy? I'm hoping for a fun blue. I was at a service camp with junior high kids for the last couple days. I got to spend the week with your friend and mine, Will. We talked about you, mostly good things. :) He said he misses your daily chats. We had a culture night where we learned dance moves from Western Africa. We'll compare notes when you return. Let's just say there's a lot of shimmy-ing involved. Keep taking pictures of your friends there. It's nice to put faces with names. Lastly, I agree with Monica - try the jaternice balls! Love ya!
