Mile 80.6
3/5 4:08 pm 42 degrees F

I came here because a journey that is determined mostly by chance must start at the casino. It would be a peril to not begin this adventure at the temple of the dice - the craps table. I was able to observe how some people can entrust 1000 or more dollars on a roll of the dice. Instead, I'm entrusting some of my freedoms, which one might suppose is worth even more. However, I have already determined many rules that allow for security and safety. If I were to bet to determine career choices or if I were to bet how many years of schooling I require, to determine which friends I'm allowed to converse with, or even my life - then I suppose there would be much more at stake and I'm not so sure I would rely so heavily on the dice. But in essence, there are such people at casinos that do put that much trust into gambling and by doing so, they may lose friends, they may be forced to stay in a lackluster job or may not be able to go back to school simply because they lose so much money in gambling.

That being said, the first roll turned out a 3. For the rest of the day that I stayed at the Borgata - a long time, actually 5 am until about 4 pm, I trusted the 3rd 12 on the roulette wheel and that was probably the only game in which I reliably gained money. I played blackjack, roulette, craps, texas hold'em and I pretty much lost my 250 bank at 2 pm. At that point, I decided that it was time to decide my next location. So at the roulette wheel, the number one showed up after the dealer set my locations, so I had to head toward Harrisburg, PA. While technically Harrisburg shouldn't have been an option, I think that my lack of other travel allowed for a double leg so that I can go beyond the 100 mile radius rule. One rule is that once the next location/activity is chosen, I must initiate the process to do the next activity within fifteen minutes. Knowing this and having only won 80 bucks (and thus being down 175 at that moment), I decided to go for broke and headed to the $25 blackjack tables. Five consecutive hands (one of them blackjack against what turned out to be a dealer 21 too) were won and I made an extra 125. So in the end, I left the Borgata pretty much even except that I was able to use some comp dollars for meals - which really helped the budget and tamed my hunger. So it looks that it'll the VW Beetle Suites will be my primary lodging option from now on. I hear that it's tight, but it's one of those trendy accomodations. And I think I'll take a nap right now - I've been up since yesterday and I don't think I'll be able to make the two-hour trip as is.
