I decided to visit the Budweiser Budvar factory today. Since it was a trip to the brewery I also decided to drink a pint (0,5 L) of Budvar every two hours. I was planning to do this in the Czech Republic anyway since beer is so cheap - only $1.5 for a pint at a restaurant, $1 at a bar. Woke up around 10:00 so along the way to the train station about 11:00 I had my first pint. Had a reasonable buzz going. Then I got to the train and had to go an hour north to Budejovice (Budweis in German). Due to travelling on the train, I missed a whole two hours. Plus getting to the brewery from the train station took all my time as well. I had to make the 1400 tour since it was the only English tour. The brewery itself was an interesting site. Nothing too special that distinguishes it from other breweries except for the history of the name and the battle over who gets to call the beer Budweiser. And watching the bottling was fairly entertaining. It even had some light beer tasting straight from the source. So after the tour, I had to catch up with the time. So while waiting for the train I had about 2 pints but I was still behind. It was 1700 and I was about an hour behind, plus being on the train for an hour will set me behind when I'm back in Cesky Krumlov. But by the end of the night I pretty much caught up. It took determination and a lot of trips to the restroom, but I made it. I had a buzz going the entire day, but I never reached drunkedness. Nonetheless, that was not the point, it was to enjoy and celebrate what Budweiser Budvar is. And it is the better of the two Budweisers.
