Funny, this entry is already outdated considering the Montenegro situation. I am now in Beograd/Belgrade. I didn't expect to spend any time here and in reality, well, I'm not going to spend much time here anyway. From what I've seen, I really like Beograd. It's a nice place and a lively city. I wish I could've spent more time here. I barely got to scratch the surface and now I'm leaving for Skopje tomorrow. Transitioning from Yugoslavia to Serbia & Montenegro to now Serbia is the situation here. I was at the port and went into an "artist/souvenir shop" and saw this tour bus enter. It was funny because this older American lady was telling the girl at the counter:

lady - "Oh, I was here in Yugoslavia about 22 years ago, before you were born you know" (Oh wow, this place has changed)

girl - "Heheh, oh no" (No, I'm not that young you dingbat)

lady - "Yeah, it's different now, it's changed since the bombings" (It's very interesting to see the difference since a bit of political tussles)

girl - "Oh no, it's very beautiful here" (I focus on the future and the hopes of Serbia and not on the past)

lady - "Yeah, I even went to Montenegro, but it's so rocky over there, you know?" (I hope you like that I'm telling you that you have it so much better over here)

girl - "..." (Bitch, don't you listen to the news? Did you hear what's happening now? I don't give a shit about Montenegro right now)

lady - "blah blah blah" (I am ignorant, hear me speak)

girl - "Hehe, [smiles]" (Leave already)

It was an interesting exchange to listen to. In my opinion, Beograd has many good things going its way and it probably suffers from a lot of bad images just because of the events in the 90s. It has an interesting nightlife and it has it well off compared to rural Serbia. I was passing on the train and saw a real shanty-town with the corrugated steel roofs and all...and passing by McMansions being built maybe 1000 meters away. It's crazy to see such discrepancy so clearly.

I finally got to a place where I can upload pictures...and of coruse I forgot the USB cord in my backpack. So I'm a bit pissed.

Onto Skopje tonight.
