I woke up very early in Antigua and a shuttle brought me to the Guatemala airport. I got out at the domestic airport. It wasn't an airport really. They brought me to this office where they brought people in to check in. It was boring to be there. But the flight was alright. It was a half hour long but they tried so so hard to have as much customer service as possible. There was a drinks and breakfast service and they even had a restroom aboard this little 25 passenger plane.

The moment I got off the plane, I was able to get my luggage and quickly went through customs and such. I didn't know what to do. I knew I wanted to get to Tikal, but figured I had to go in town to book a tour and then go. Lucky for me, I was bombarded by tour operators who were trying to grab last minute guests. Just like me. She was even able to get me a room at a hotel for cheap. In fact it was the same hotel I called a day before and told me that they had no room. I paid a little extra for the tour I got, but I was able to get an English tour and a better microbus. I had A/C. I sat by an American family from LA who kinda adopted me as their own. She was a dean at a college, if I remember and they adopted two Asian children. They offered me sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

It was interesting because Survivor had just finished filming at Yaxh, so it was still closed over there. But everyone was ready for the tourism boom that was to come. They made sure by having us stop at a store and buy souvenirs before we continued.

We got to Tikal. It was amazing. The temples were steep to climb, but I liked being able to get to the top to see the views. And to think that this was all man-made. To haul those rocks up to that height...oh my. And to hear the history of the temples and to see all the biodiversity in the rainforest. And the howler monkeys. I wish I had recorded their voices. Such a loud voice for such a tiny thing.
