Leaving Nova Scotia I was able to listen to this amazing radio programme called The Debaters. Basically they have two celebrities debate about a topic and also put in a bit of humor in their responses to questions. But I was amazed at how well they debated topics. If only we had something like this to demonstrate to feeble Americans how to properly listen and attack during debates. Sigh. I felt so intelligent just from listening to that programme.

I crossed the border and had a bit of an inquisition. The guy asked where I was born and asked for a passport. I told him Singapore, but I think he made the common misconception that asking where someone was born is an acceptable question to ask for someone's national origin. Because with American license plates, I wouldn't have needed a passport to cross back in by road, I thought. I believe the conversion to passport to reentry isn't until 2008. Anyway, he asked about my MN plates and how I'd be driving back and I told him I'd go back to Philly. So I had to explain that I went to college there. Got a few questions about what I was bringing back. I responded that aside from these cookies I hadn't finished, I wasn't bringing anything back (which was the truth, I didn't even get a single souvenir). He kinda shut up and let me go at that point. But he was probably done with me anyway. I just wanted to leave because my gas tank was very empty and had been for a long time. I actually stopped just to get 10 dollars of gas along the way because I didn't want to fill up until I got back to American rates.

I stopped at Tim Horton's by the way.

I knew I wanted to see the sunrise so I stopped earlier than later to sleep so I would wake up earlier. I slept longer than I should've. I wanted an hour nap but went for four. So I woke up and drove all the way through Maine pretty much. I wanted to go back to the coast I drove along earlier, but I missed that exit. So I looked at the atlas and saw I could see the sun rise in Portland. But I actually took the wrong exit and got lost and realized I already passed Portland. So I just left and figured I'll catch Kennebunkport. Then leaving I saw a sign for Old Orchard Beach. I decided just to take that for the sunrise.

Little did I know it was a real beach with real amusements and resorts. I thought it was a local side beach or something. I missed the sun rise though. I hadn't expected a 5 am sunrise. I got there about 5:30 and got a good amount of beautiful morning sun. I didn't get the sun off the horizon, but it was fine enough for me. In fact the photos I got are the best I've ever had. I took a few wrong turns and ended up at the right place at the right time.
