Ah Samara, the last frontier. What a sleepy, peaceful town it was. We arrived by private shuttle which took less than four hours as opposed to the public transport route which would have taken about 8 hours. For once being sick paid off for me!

Once here we headed straight to the beach...and what a beach! A wide expanse of golden sand fringed by palm trees with gentle waves breaking. Its like no beach I've ever seen. We walked the full length a few times, 45 minutes from one end to the other. Fantastic.

Our accommodation included cable tv which was excellent, especially as I stayed in bed late the first couple of mornings to recuperate so I was able to watch Wimbledon (starting about 7am here) and the group stages of the Copa America were starting! An unexpected bonus.

Anyway not a lot else happened here to be quite honest, the most noteworthy thing is the preponderance of animals wandering around. Horses grazing on the soccer field in the town centre, walking down the street at night in 2s and 3s, or roaming on the beach. (I saw one group of horses hassling some tourists for carrots. It got very ugly.) Cows taking a leisurely stroll by the sea in the late morning. And soooo many dogs! Also a few iguanas and the beach was full of crabs scuttling about.

After 4 days here we were properly refreshed and ready to hit the road.

Panama here we come!
