We woke early to start our drive and discovered that we had some new friends in our camp... a family of elephants. Now bear in mind that we were on the crater rim so how they got up there was well beyond me.

We ate breakfast, loaded the trucks, and headed out on our long journey to the Serengeti.  On our was out of the crater highlands, we passed several Masai villages.  It was a nice day, thankfully, as we were going to be on dirt roads the entire trip and mud would have made for an even longer journey.

We stopped at the Odupai Gorge  - this is the archeological dig where many of the fossils that led us to learn of man's evolution from hominid to homo sapian were found.  There were finds dating back millions of years - animal, plant and human (well, kind of).

I learned a new skill - reading on a very, very bumpy dirt road.  I was able to knock out about half of The Fountainhead today and can see why it is so acclaimed and recommended.  I am becoming a huge Ayn Rand fan - I think if I ever start my own company, I will simply name it Galt-Roark Industries.

An hour later, we crossed under the sign indicating that we had now entered the Serengeti and all I can say is wow.  The vastness of the plains is like nothing I have ever seen, nor will see again, in my life.  It is honestly hard to describe and I feel that the pictures don't really do it justice.  We drove through the Serengeti to our camp which is just outside and I was wowed once again.  Caroline had said that the camp was the bomb on our blog and boy was she right.  This place is like an African resort.  The tents are that much nicer and the main hunt has a separate dining area, sitting area with leather couches and books and a bar.  They also have a great fire pit and chaise lounges outside the main lodge.  Jenn no longer thinks that we are roughing it.

We got our showers and had dinner with the group.  We then hit the sack early as we had to wake up at 3:45 for our balloon ride Tuesday morning!

Can't wait for that update.... Should be amazing!

Hope all are well.
