That is the explanation that our guide, half in the bag from multiple beers by 11 AM, gave for why the USA did not defeat the North Vietnamese. This was just one of many revelations that he dazzled us with during our short six hours with this fine tour guide. Between beers, answering his cell (and screaming into it), and with a cigarette always precariously perched upon his bottom lip our guide, Mr Binh, related to us all of the intricacies of the Vietnam War and the fighting in and around Cu Chi.

This was our experience with the one, and only, guided tour that we have taken here in Vietnam. Mr Binh claimed to have worked with the US Navy, and if his language was any indicator, he certainly learned well. He at least played the part of a good sailor by being about as profane as any good Marine gunnery sergeant. I guess we should not be surprised, after all we paid a total of $12 USD for the pleasure. Actually, I think we got quite a good deal.

Outside of pure military genius that is Mr Binh, it actually was an interesting little trip. It was a good reminder why we do not go on organized tours. It was also very interesting to see some of the tunnels and how they were built/concealed. I first read about the Cu Chi tunnels in 8th grade and so it was very interesting to crawl through and experience at least a little of what it must have been like.

So, the moral of all of this, I guess, has to be that for all of you out there who want to be tough, quit sitting on the toilet. It is for lazy people. Start squatting.
