Well, we arrived here 2 days ago with the hope of work and a fairly lively coast town in the air....and got neither!. Instead we have a very strange town and lots of time to kill, let me explain. The plan was to meet Brad here then start work picking fruit almost immediatley, this hasn't quite worked out. We arrived to be met by Brad who told us that while we did have a bed the next night, we didn't on out night of arrival, we had a sofa bed between us, not ideal, but it did a job for a night and we got it free anyway!. So we arrose the next morning with no work and a whole day to kill, so a wander round the town was called for. The town is dead. I mean this for both evenings - try finding a pub with more than 5 people in it and during the day, there is no-one around!, so me and Brace just bummed around, watched some films and went to the supermarket. Today we were meant to be working, but after getting up at 6am there was no work as it's raining, so we have another mass of time to kill

It's 4 days into our Hastings experience and me and Brace have both successfully managed to avoid all kinds of work!. Bradda has been working hard, up at 6:30am most mornings and fair play to him fopr that!. Brace and i however have managed to do jack all except watch a few films, play a bit of rugby and get very good at 9 card brag!. So yeah, the days have been dead and the nights have hardly set the world alight. The town is just plain quiet, last night was bracey's birthday so me and him went out (leaving Brad passed out on his bed, knackered from work) hoping for a bit of life, it was friday after all. We found none, went to Kens bar, which had a very bad band playing, but at least 20 people in the building, then finished the night in Friends bar with a spot of drunken pool!.

On the up, we have managed to sort ourselves out for the next bit of the trip. Me and Brace are taking a plane to Nelson on the 15th and a Magic bus down the west coast of the south island, ending in Queenstown for xmas. Brad is staying in Hastings to work until about the 20th, then heading down to Queenstown via Wellington for 2 nights. The plan is to all meet up to live it large for xmas and new year!.
