Saturday
And so it begins. An early alarm was followed by a fairly uninterested, if a little cramped, trip to Manchester Airport in the Bradley's BMW. Kit slept all the way up there as is standard when he gets into a car, whilst everyone else just sat there cramped. We arrived at the airport, checked in, then proceeded to wander around and kill about 3 hours until the flight. We shopped, we drank and we played Sega Rally, usual rubbish. The flight was nothing of any interest, 3 1/2 hours, no issues and we arrived in Sofia as planned. It was then that the good news started. Firstly we found that we were in Borovets and secondly we had got a 3-star not the bog standard 2-star hotel. This was topped by Bradda's apparently seeing "the most amazing girl in the world". From that point on, we knew it would be a good holiday.

After a 1 1/2 hour transfer we arrived at the Hotel Edelweiss, our home for the next week at about 10pm, and were very impressed, it was clean, well furnished, and had a buffet ready and waiting for us. So we gorged ourselves on Bulgarian food, meat based in the main, had a couple of beers in the hotel bar and then hit the sack about 11:30, me rooming with Kit, Bradda's and Billy in the other, in what would be our quietest and earliest night of the whole holiday.

Sunday

Awoke about 8:30 for our first sample of Bulgarian Breakfast, and we very impressed - lots of bacon, sausage and eggs washed down with juice and fruit, all good. We then headed on the 10 minute walk into town to collect our ski's and hit the slopes. Waited for about 45 minutes in the queue for the kit, before being handed some "expert" level skis (Rossignol), boots (horrible Saloman things) and some poles. And then the carnage began. Without wanting to appear like wimps, we dismissed the nursery slopes and headed straight up the chair lift to the top. The slopes looked steep and difficult and we were really not sure we had done the correct thing. All was not lost at the top as we found a very casual green slope to head down, only crossing a blue slope briefly. And this was where the fun began. Bradda's has never been taught how to ski and so didn't know that you had to transverse across the slope to get down it. As a result he got on the piste, pointed downward, got the snowplough out and headed down. Me, K and C stood at the top and just laughed as he headed all the way down with the widest and most picture perfect snowplough you could imagine. At the point Bradda's was given his new nick-names - "Captain Snowplough" and "plough king" in honour of his perfect skills. The rest of the day took on a similar theme, mostly green slopes, the odd blue, Me, K and C getting the skills going and B getting the plough going. We finished up about 4:30, dropped the ski's back and headed home.

A quick nap was followed by more meat at the buffet and a trip to Intro bar for the organised pub crawl. One word - "session". We were greeted by free shots which were washed down with cheap beer, and another beer, and another beer and ano..... you get the picture. We met Pete and Kiwi Chris who were in a hotel next to ours and were also out on the session. I won't fill you with all the details, but we went to 101 Cocktail (bad DJ, more shots), Franko's (pizza bar, THAT barmaid), Black Tiger (karaoke, where Billy and Kit starting talking to the girls from Bristol, and C took it a little further than "chatting"), Rila (dead, me, B and Pete ripping up the dance floor with some Welsh girls) and finally Buzz Bar (C grinding with the girl on the sofa's - he was getting diiirty!, K's ground work finally paying off and getting the other Bristol girl, me, B and Kiwi Chris taking advantage of the 2-4-1 drinks and generally abusing Pete for the standard of girls he was after). We hit the sack about 4:30, absolutely plastered and generally feeling fairly rubbish..... Couldn't wait for the morning to come....

Monday

We awoke about 9am and were all feeling suspiciously good given the amount of beer and sleep we had. Another meat based breakfast was followed the standard walk to collect our ski's and we headed to the gondola for today's skiing. The views were absolutely spectacular, you could see for miles over the mountains, and the tranquility of it all was only spoilt by Kit's beer arse producing the kind of smells that make your eyes bleed. A quick check of the map and the decision was made to take a button lift (our first for about 10 years) to a blue run, followed by the longest green in the resort (35km as you asked..... oh, you didn't...). The blue run was very hard work for a group still drunk from last night, and we had to stop for chips half way down, eating them as the snow came down around us. The green was good fun as well, very long, quite flat and narrow and with some pretty awesome views. In fact the only problem we got was when we got to the bottom and realised that we were a couple of km from town. An absolute fleecing by the local horse taxi and we finished our day on the chair lift from yesterday with a couple of blues.

After a quick snooze, and more meat based buffet, we were back on for a session in the evening. First stop was a pizza restaurant we nick named The Wagon due to it being quiet and having an open fire, Intro was also visited where i think we were the only people in there. Next up was 101 Cocktail where first of all we tried an Egyptian smoking pipe which was vvvvvery relaxing and then K and C took to the floor for a beautiful karaoke rendition of Suspicious Minds. The night finished in Buzz Bar again where yet more 2-4-1 beer was consumed and there were so many guys it felt like the proverbial cock fight. Another drunken walk home followed......

Tuesday

Another day of standard skiing mostly spent on the red and blue slopes. The thing that made today stand out was the huge blizzard that took place on the slopes. The day started sunny, and the fell into a ridiculous snow storm that had me buying goggles and B treating himself to a balaclava. K decided to stay with the head band and so ended with icicles in his hair. In all honesty, the skiing was superb, the amount of snow on the slopes making even the difficult red runs doable as they were covered in powder, the only issue being the slight lack of visibility, but hey, if you can't see where you're going then you can't get scared!!!!!. Once again, we packed up about 4:30 and headed home for a sleep before tea.

The evening took a very familiar theme of "meat" followed by "session", interspersed with us getting ready to the tunes of Warren G and Nickelback. We started of in Intro, which was once again, banging to the sound of 4 people drinking cheap beer. A quick walk to 101 Cocktail followed, and we picked Kiwi Chris and Pete up along the way. Another Egyptian pipe was sampled, as was the sounds of drunk people doing karaoke in Black Tiger, and Billy's toxic arse in Rila. The evening finished in Buzz Bar (are you seeing a theme emerging here?!) where the terrible happened. Billy and Kit saw the 2 girls they had "chatted to" on Sunday pulling a couple of Cockney's with shit, highlighted hair (yeah, cus I can talk about having shit hair!!!!) on the dance floor. Kit took little or no notice, but Billy was gutted. The night finished with our first Bulgarian kebab (not bad, looked like chicken, contained chips!) and an ear bending from Billy about the delights of Noreen and how "she is really special". I will resist the temptation to take the piss here, but let's just say it was not the last time her name was mentioned on the trip!

Stay tuned folk, more entries for follow shortly.
