The grand daddy of them all. Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. Built by a Tamil king Suryavarman II in the early 12th. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation– first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

The modern name, Angkor Wat, means "Temple City" or "City of Temples" in Khmer. Mr Wikipedia.

To me while it is grand in one way, I would not rate it as being my no 1 attraction. Yes, it is HUGE. Like the moat is 190 m wide and forms a rectangle 1.5 km by 1.3 km. The outer wall measures 1025 by 800 metres. Yes, the galleries are really long 800 metres and impressive.

The view from the top is great but I suppose to me the temple lacks details, colour and character ... there was too much of it i.e. the repetitive bas relief. Although they told an interesting story, it may be I didn't know the meaning behind all of them ... too much …. or was it that it Angkor Wat was seen at the end of a long day?

Don’t worry, it is still one of the trip’s highlight as to me it looks much better from afar than close up inside it.
