The short 6 hour flight to Sydney was uneventful. I asked for an isle seat (legs to stretch out) and was seated way at the back where there were empty seats. So I grabbed a window seat with a spare seat besides me and with many pillows to prop me up managed a couple of broken hours sleep after the meal service.
It was still pitch black as we approached Sydney. Touch down at 6.20 am and sure enough soon the golden sun rose over the city CBD.
Because I was using my Qantas frequent flyers points and the airline doesn't like to use the early flights back to Auckland for redemption, I had to wait 6 hours till 12.10 pm for my 3 hour flight back.
After boarding and to my surprise when the airline staff announced who the Captain was, I said .. "I know that person - Ross." Pity that QF 43 and the Boeing 737 800 was completely full.
