At 3 pm we left for the 40 minute drive to visit Jogya's other great site - this time of the Hindu variety. Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu complex in Java and one of the world's greatest. Also built in the 9th century we enjoy the mastery of this site in the late afternoon.

Prambanan also suffered much damage in the 2006 earthquake and it will take decades for them to fully restore the site. At least the main parts has already been restored but around the site are piles of stones awaiting their turn to be rebuilt into the small temples.

As we were leaving in the vans, I saw that the sun set rays had got really orange for a short while, but alas we had already left the site.

So which was the better site? Hard to say. Both very different. I think Borobodur wins.

Having just seen Machu Picchu in Peru, I knew that these two sites were not going to be as grand but as Indonesia’s premier attraction, yes, it was worthwhile.

Dinner was at the Belgium Via Via Café, next door to the hotel. Chicken Chasseur = pan fried chicken, potato wedges, ratatouille and mushroom gravy 45,000 Rp and a Vitamin Boast fruit drink for 25,000 Rp = total 71,000 Rp (NZ $8 or US $6).
