First stop after a dry landing at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno was the Interpretation Centre to read about the geology, marine currents, natural history and finally the human history of the Galapagos Islands.

The supply of fresh drinking water and renewable energy plus the impact of us humans are major concerns for the islanders.

This Centre only needed 30 minutes but we were given an hour here.

With it being New Year’s Day and the New Year‘s Eve celebrations going on till the wee small hours of today (6 am in fact!), San Cristobal was still closed and only a few souvenir shops were open for the ever fewer tourists wandering the streets. They must have had a party last night to welcome in the New Year as the street cleaners were sweeping the mess up. As we drove to the Interpretation Centre, some locals were still partying (drinking and loud music) outside their houses.

Soon time to say goodbye at 10.30 am to the rest of the party heading back to Quito and my zodiac was awaiting to take me back to the boat.

Soon the new group of 15 passengers arrived from the airport and lunch.
