A relocate along Lemaire Channel or otherwise known as Kodak Alley.

I was in the bridge, where its warm and you have a wonderful forward view, when I saw out of the corner of my eye what appeared to be 2 whales surfacing. Sure enough they were 2 humpbacks. The Captain slowed down and Julio made an announcement over the PA. For the next 45 minutes we followed these creatures. The evening programme was put back but halfway through a leopard seal was spotted on an ice berg by the port bow. Again we all rushed out to take our pictures and then continuation of hearing about the next day's activities.

Finally after dinner the clouds lifted in Port Lockroy where we had returned to. I was finally rewarded with finally photos of the mountains in this area bathed in the warm evening light and some still with their cotton wool cloud protection. Patience meaning staying outdoor on the top open deck for several hours along with some other hard core passengers all wrapped up seeing the effect of the changing light on the surrounding snow and rocks.

Expedition Log

by Scott MacPhail & Osi Shahaf

When we were back on the ship we made our way north through the Lemaire Channel and back to spend the night at Port Lockroy. The passage through Peltier Channel was amazing as we ate dinner and watched the officers carefully take us through this narrow waterway. Another full day of activities and sightings, the hits just keep on coming.
