Where I stayed
Two brief days in Rio meant a few quick morning and evening walks along the southern end of Copacabana Beach where the hotel was located towards Arpoador and then Ipanema Beach.
Even as the sun rose just after 6 am the dedicated locals and tourists were out fishing, swimming, jogging, undertaking their daily exercise routine, or even walking the dog before the day got too hot. The low rising sun was magic for taking photos.
Yes, I eventually got my swim in on the last afternoon and noticed that the water was warm but also filthy with rubbish and who knows what else.
The brisk warm on-shore winds meant that the waves were up and not many people were in the water which was really tepid. It was enough of a swim to tick that one off. Wonder if I will go for a swim in Southern Chile (probably NOT)? Or will I go for swim down in Antarctica as many do?
