Where I stayed
The short ride to the city airport, then the first of 2 long queues: check in and then security. By the time we had got to security it was well past our flight departure time. Other passengers for various flights were pushing to the front trying to get to their scheduled departure. Not to worry the plane wouldn’t leave without us! The 9.15 am flight left about 10.15 am. That's Aer Argentina for you. Their plane was not in the best of condition. I asked for a window seat and sure enough got a window seat - right at the back of the plane with a view of one of the MD80 engines! The very slight view that I had of the countryside showed it was flat and barren.
Met by Pedra, our local guide or CEO = Chief Experience Officer for the rest of the trip and then the 3 hour or approx 180 km drive to windy El Chalten. Sure enough it was windy as we reached this small village at 5 pm. A climber said this that was the first clear day as the mountain peaks had been covered the previous few days. Hopefully tomorrow it will be clear for our all day trek though rain is forecast.
A 6 pm group briefing for tomorrow’s 18 km walk. Wonder how my blisters will hold up? Next door is a all you can eat pizza place for only 38 pesos about NZ$13.
