What a pleasure hitting the tar road after almost 3 days on the worst gravel roads we have ever seen. Like with most things in Africa, enjoy things when they are going well, because the good tar became bad tar very quickly, and the only way to describe driving on some of these potholed roads is like playing space invaders. You can avoid the danger only for so long before you land in the sh1t. Avoiding potholes is quite fun initially, but after 15 mins of it, one invariably looses ones concentration, and BANG, you've almost cracked an axle, or buckled a rim.

We spent 2 days camping on the slopes of Mount Kenya, at a very nice lodge called Naro Moru River Lodge. This seemed to be one of the bases that people use before attempting to climb the mountain. Great setting along the river with the big mountain in the background. We gave the car a quick once over not expecting the thunderstorm to hit a couple of hours later. It was absolutely pouring down. Real rain, as we call it and we were quite worried about the tent, but fortunately all ok and nice and cosy when we went to bed.

We didn't climb the mountain and just relaxed here for a couple of days. It's pricey to go into any park or climb a mountain here in Kenya, so we've chosen only a few to go into and this isn't one of them. After a couple of days lazing by the pool it was time to move on and we left for Lake Naivasha.
