Where I stayed
Blenheim Racecourse
DAY 75, 76 – Thu 12, Fri 13 April 2012
Well – we saw why it was cold last night! We can see fresh snow on the Seaward Kaikouras but the rain has stopped. Bruce and Ros went for walk along the shore – no sand here but small stones like peas instead. It was a bit weird!! As we walked we spotted flippers slapping about a wee way out in the bay. Of course we didn't have the binoculars but they were too big for seals so guess it was a whale enjoying the nice weather!! The buses with the dolphin watchers passed us as walked back to camp. As we drove up to Blenheim we passed lots of cars stopped along the road as people hopped out to watch the seals on the rocks all the way up the coast. Where we stopped for a cuppa there was a small seal sunning himself just by the 'van. Whew – he did pong!!
Tonight we’re parked up at Blenheim Racecourse with about a dozen other ‘vans; some are heading north to the ferry and others came across the Strait today. This is a great spot to stay over – even has a washing machine!!
Fri
We drove into Blenheim this morning and did a catch-up at the Library on the Travel Blog – had got a bit behind! After lunch we followed the Wine Trail Map and visited a couple of vineyards and also went to the Aviation Heritage Museum which houses planes etc from Sir Peter Jackson’s collection. It’s so well setup – with help from Weta Workshops. It’s a bit quieter at the campsite tonight with fewer vehicles in.
