DAY 55, 56 – Fri 23, Sat 24 Mar 2012
What a sunny morning to pack up after popping into Te Anau for groceries. The great road from Te Anau made for a stress-free drive for Bruce (well for awhile anyway). We stopped at Fairlight Station for lunch but decided it was too exposed to camp there and carried on past Kingston to free camp on the shores of the lake (about 5kms north). We set up camp with a view to die for – straight down the lake with bellbirds singing in the trees above us. Other vans came in so plenty of people to chat to. One couple was from Kent and travelling around for 2 months here. Quite a few were 'Wings' members so caught up on good spots to stop at.

SatIt was a quiet night traffic wise but very windy in the trees above us and the lake had heaps of whitecaps this morning. We went off to go on the 10am Kingston Flyer trip and it was fine and sunny by the time we left the station. It was such fun on the trip to and fro Fairlight station on the train. We waved to the cars stopped on the side of the road taking photos of the train. It was a great trip to do! We came back and moved the caravan to the Kingston station which we discovered is a POP (Park over property) where we can stay for free/donation. What a lovely spot right on the lake front but very sheltered. There was also better internet coverage as we wanted to Skype Michael for his birthday (we’re not going to be in range on 25th). We managed to get through to them and had a chat and sang Happy Birthday to the little fellow. While we were online there was a toot and the Kingston Flyer steamed into the station so that was a big bonus!!! We could go over to the Café/Bar for a drink before cooking our tea and met some more of the motorhome owners too. It was a bit chilly when we went for a walk after tea tonight
