Monday 11th 2010 –  London Heathrow to Ridgmont (Fine, mild)

Oooops! Sorry for the delay in this entry on the Travel Blog. Not sure how it got overlooked.

Our flight arrived at Heathrow on time so we were able to get through immigration etc in time to catch an earlier bus to Luton Airport. This trip took a bit over an hour and we contacted Just Go Motorhomes when we arrived at Luton. We had a 20 minute or so wait for our pickup to take us to the motorhome depot at Flamstead. This setup is at a farm up a narrow country lane. You turn in the farm gateway and see heaps of motorhomes in the yard and sheds... most interesting. It took over an hour to do the paperwork and an orientation of the motorhome. Wow it looked big!! We reckon we'll be very comfortable for the next 16 days and it will be great to unpack our stuff so we’re not living out of suitcases. Once onboard our first task was to work out how to get to the motorway from the depot!!!  The driving instructions Ros had prepared didn’t help at this stage!! One of the pieces of advice we were given was that if we could negotiate the narrow roads here we’d be able to drive anywhere..... Keeping that in mind we set off – only to meet the local bus just down the one lane road!! We headed for the hedge on the side of the lane and the bus did the same. It was a very tight squeeze but we figured the bus driver would meet these big rigs every day! The big map books were a great help to Ros in finding our way to Ridgmont, our stopover for the night. It took us about an hour to get to the Rose and Crown pub campsite without too many wrong turns. The campsite is basically a field at the rear of the pub with power hook-ups and basic facilities. This suited us as we just needed a place to park and crash. It was handy for us to have our dinner at the pub and a chance to unwind before an early night. Tomorrow we’ll sort out getting groceries and anything else we need .....
