We were excited to be back in Perth and had planned to stay with friends on the weekends and then in caravan parks during the week so as not to interrupt anyone’s working week routine. When we arrived at Kellie and Ross’s they would have none of it so we ended up basing ourselves there for almost two weeks.
We had a great time, with a stunning home that overlooks the Palm Beach foreshore in Rockingham we were able to enjoy watching the sunset over the bay every evening. Rockingham is a far cry from the city to which we were posted in 1993, Kellie explained how the area is going through gentrification and we can really see the difference
Whilst Ross and Rod enjoyed having 'cook off’s; taking it in turns of cooking impressive dinners each night, Kel and I did what we do best; wine tasting and solving the problems of the world late into the evening.
A friend of Ross and Kellie’s was kind enough to take us out on his boat. It was a gorgeous sunny day and we were able to get up close and personal with a pod of dolphins. The dolphins were happily frolicking, teasing us by playing hide and seek! It was heaps of fun and an awesome experience.
We travelled just down the road to Secret Harbour to spend a weekend with friends Sarah, Rick and their two lovely daughters Samantha and Stephanie. It was enjoyable to catch up and they were kind enough to invite mutual friends over for dinner on the Saturday night.
We needed to get a little more prepared for our northward journey which included getting the car and van serviced along with some supplies… boring things like an air compressor to enable us to take advantage of more 4WD tracks etc… There was however a fun purchase…
We added two kayaks to our roof
It was then that the saleslady asked what colour we would like, she handed us a wad of colour swatches and explained we could choose any colour or combination we liked from that range. As we took a moment to discuss it we glanced into the factory area and there we saw it… a grey one, it would match the Navara! And so it was, two grey kayaks with black accessories of course! Who would have thought we could get kayaks to match the car, I was so excited! Now our rig would look better than ever!
We were able to carry them down to the beach from Kellie and Ross’s and put them straight into the water. It was very exciting to do this on the first afternoon and we had so much fun paddling around getting a feel for them.
With two of Kellie and Ross’s children still at home the excitement of the nightly cook off got too much for their daughter Nicole and she decided to join in and cook dinner
After almost two weeks in luxury (our room at Kellie and Ross’s was twice the size of our caravan), we were once again saying goodbye and setting off.
We stopped off north of the river for a night with friends Kelly, Paul and their gorgeous young children, Ella, Ruby and Rory. Once again it was a lovely night full of laughter, reminiscing and problem solving. We joined them once more for breakfast and then waved goodbye and set off north on the next stage of our adventure…
Where will we stop tonight…?
A huge thank you to Kellie and Ross, Sarah and Rick, and Kelly and Paul for their hospitality while we were in Perth, we loved catching up and appreciated the delicious food, fine wines and great banter!
