Got the shuttle bus to the airport and met the gang there. The flight to Surat Thani was a short one followed by a bus for an hour and a half to the port for the ferry to Koh Phagnan which took about 3 hours. On arrival in Koh Phagnan it was all systems go as we rushed to Erin and Jane's hotel to change and then straight into the taxi which took us to the beach for the Full Moon Party.
Body paint? Check. Money? Check. Booze buckets? Check. Buddies to party with? Er, not a chance. We failed miserably to meet up with Jade, Jo, Holly and Dan and even lost Genevieve. While looking, we lost Jane and Julia along the way. So we gave up in the end and concentrated on drinking and having fun.
The beach was a blanket of people, music was blaring from each bar, the sand was covered in lost flip flops and empty booze buckets. In the middle was a free sleep area so if you fancied a nap you could have a lie down in an enclosed area which was probably safer than sleeping amoungst the party people.
At around 5am we decided we were knackered. The party only ended at 11am so we could have stayed but i think the after effects of the buckets were getting to me. After watching Erin and James trying to negotiate a cheaper taxi fare and failing we eventually got back to the hotel and piled into the room, ready for sleep. Julia came back minus Jane and still in the party mood so at around 7am she and James decided to go back and find Jane.
When they returned, James was covered in blood. He'd decided it was a good idea to hire a motorbike even though he didn't know how to drive one and was probably still drunk. The poor guy now has a massive gash in his knee which I'm sure requires stitches and an equally gross looking one on his elbow.
Jane returned in one piece eventually and we tried unsuccessfully to sleep 3 of us in a single bed.
We left for the ferry to Koh Samui around 11.30am and joined a ferry full (over 100 at least) of tired, hungover full moon party goers - it was a sight for sore eyes. Some people were really in a bad way. I reckon sick bags would have been better suited hanging on the backs of seats than the life jackets were.
Luckily our journey to Koh Samui only lasted 45 minutes and we were the first stop!
