San Juan is located on the Pacific Ocean, and we were told it would be very gringo-like. It was really just a laid back seaside town, with a lovely empty beach and a few shops.

We enjoyed a nice lunch (only a hamburger to save room for dinner) on the seafront, and then spent a couple of hours at the beach. The water was very warm and, the views of the mountains all around was amazing. There was even a Rio-equivalent of the Christ statue on the cliff top! We all met at 5pm and had cocktails in the seafront bars and then stayed for a dinner at El Timon… very nice red snapper! This was prob the best meal I have had in south America… along wit Bryan's cooking and Maddie’s pasta alfredo of course!

We came back about 9pm to the hotel, but then heard firecrackers up the road, so went to investigate. There was a nativity scene followed by the local pastor playing carols on his keyboard (and singing along) accompanied by fireworks. The strange thing was that the boys had made wooden crates and had attached fireworks to them… and when they set them alight, they ran around the park, holding the firework crate over their heads…. Fireworks were shooting off in every direction… no health and safety here!

We did manage to get to sleep, despite the firecrackers, but the electricity went off over night and we got a bit hot without the air con!
