Today, was children's day, and this seems to be celebrated throughout Honduras. Basically, the children could do what they wanted!

The kids straggled in to school from 7 to 9 am, but not all of the children came in. Maybe about 4 per class were absent. There wasn’t any real organisation of the day, and it wasn’t until about 0930 when the Director decided to get things moving. We had a presentation by Grade 4, of a dance to a Michael Jackson song, and then first grade sang "In the jungle"; I will attach the video of this and photos as soon as i get a good link!

Afterwards, they had races. This included the sack race, lime on a spoon race (but held in the mouth!), and a horse race (on old broom poles) where the kids had to gallop down the course and thrust a pen through a hoop; maybe a little like jousting? There were prizes for the winners; plastic animals. At the end, we had piņatas, full of sweets of course!

We finished school at 1120, nice and early, and so came home to make lunch. We have an early finish tomorrow as well, at 1120, so Madi and I are escaping home quickly, to pick up our bag, and to head for San Pedro Sula. We have a booking on the 3.20pm bus to la Ceiba and we’ll stay in the Hotel Italia, which looks nice. We have not decided our plans for the weekend – 2 choices between snorkelling and kayaking on some small remote islands or staying in Utila to take a diving course. More pics next week, hopefully of sand and sea!
