At first we skirted the volcano rim with views of the lake below. The clouds subsided making the view that much more spectacular.
There was then a zig zag decent to a village. They where smashing their drums in preparation for New Years.
Leaving the village we found a sign. 6.6km to go on a 10.6km track.
A few easy Kms opened up to a magnificent view point for lunch. It was above the canyon we where going to descend.
So down we went, over some steep cliff edges where small landslides where clearly visible. At the base was a small stream with a log bridge to cross. That meant the ascent the other side.
Up we ploughed to the village arriving around 2pm. They cooked us lunch on the quick. But another 3 course meal! A siesta was in order. We woke up and clouds had completely surrounded us. I guess that's where the hostel has its name, 'Cloud Forest'.
In the evening we had another big meal by the fire. We met these 4 Aussies, 2 Americans & some other backpackers who where also on the trail. Interesting to hear where they wanted to be for New Years tomorrow. Where will we be?
